     Elizabeth Diffley was born before 21 June 1888 at Rosdoowaun, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland.^1,2,3
She was baptized at Mohill, at Co Leitrim, on 21 June 1888.² Elizabeth's birth was registered under the name Lizzie and with a stated birth date of 15th July1888. The birth was registered on 24 July 1888 in the an unknown place Registrar's District in Mohill Superintendent Registrar's District.⁴ As of 1914, Elizabeth Diffley was also known as Lillian.⁵ She immigrated in May 1914 to New York, New York, U.S.A.. The records show a Lillian Diffley entering the states at age 23 and identifies her father as John of Rosdoowaun. As the only matching child of John's found with a similar name was Elizabeth, it is assumed it must be she that is the person in question.⁵

     John Patrick Diffley was born on 25 March 1890 at Rosdoowaun, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland.^1,2
He and Mary Diffley immigrated on 29 April 1909 to Ellis Island, New York, New York, U.S.A..³ He was listed as head of household in the 1910 census at 2935 Prince Ave, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, U.S.A..⁴

Peter Diffley married Mary Tegarty on 30 April 1928 at Cloonturk, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. The witnesses were Patrick Conboy and an unknown person.³

On 22 June 1927 a Michael Diffley, son of John, a farmer, married Rosanna McCormack in Monasterevan, Co Kildare. He was a Civil Guard. It is possible this is the Michael of interest.

     Ellen Keane was also known as Kane This surname is pronounced locally, almost invariably, as Kane, but can be found written as both Kane and Keane. Keane is taken as the official version, as it appears on the only 'official' record found in research for this project.²

She was baptized at Cloone, at Co Leitrim, on 30 July 1850.¹ As of 6 February 1887,her married name was Diffley.³
Ellen Keane married Thomas Diffley, son of Peter Diffley and Mary Murray, on 6 February 1887 at Gortletteragh, Cloone, Co Leitrim, Ireland. The witnesses were James O'Neill and Mary Austin. This latter surname is very unclear.³ No further information on Thomas and Ellen has been found after February 1887; they do not appear to be on the 1901 Census.²
