John Doyle was born on 21 October 1847 at Laheen South, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland.1
John, along with a number of others, was involved in a serious fight in Clooneagh, on New Year's Eve, 1877. Among the others was Francis Geelan of Clooneagh who is assumed to have been a brother of Edward Geelan, later master of the Workhouse.2 On 28 January 1878 John was sentenced to one month's hard labour for his part in the fight in Clooneagh on New Year's Eve, 1877. His record stated he had never been in gaol before. He was found guilty of Assault. Also sentenced was Francis Geelan of Clooneagh.2 The records of an unknown place , under date of 28 February 1878, show that John's stated date of expiration of sentence is 27/2/1878 and that he has served his time and been discharged..3
He was described in his prison record as 5’3”, with Sandy hair and Blue eyes.3 No trace of John has been found after his serving at best man at his brother's wedding in 1885. A John Doyle of Leitrim was found on the 1901 Census living in Aghnamaddoo in Co Longford but when what appears to be this man's marriage to a Mary Rodgers was checked, it turned out he married in 1872 and stated his father was then dead, thus meaning he could not have been John of Laheen South and Clooncarne. No other suitable John appears to have been enumerated on that Census.

She emigrated before October 1904 from Ireland. I have seen an Immigration of an Ellen Nichol in April 1904. She travelled with a James Nicholl (though not her brother) and like him was going to stay with a cousin Mr M Cullen. Not known if this is the correct Ellen.1 She lived in October 1904 at 1096 3rd Avenue, New York, New York, New York, U.S.A., according to Immigration record of Bridget Nicholl.1 As of 11 February 1906,her married name was Gray.1,5 Ellen Nicholl married Michael Gray on 11 February 1906 at New York, New York, New York, U.S.A.. IGI shows Ellen Nicholas married Michael Grey on this date. Her parents are James Nicholas and Mary Doyle. By no means certain this is the correct Ellen, but the dates and the husband's name match, as does her mother's name.1,5 Ellen Nicholl lived in October 1906 at 401 East 65th Street, New York, New York, New York, U.S.A..1 She and Michael Gray lived in May 1909 at 418 East 65th St, New York, New York, New York, U.S.A., according to the immigration record of her brother James Nicholl.1 Ellen, as Michael Gray's wife, resided with him 347 East 51st Street, New York, circa 1942. Very unsure of this man. Draft Card for a Michael Gray from Meath, with a wife Nellie, gives his date of birth as 10/05/1872..6
Ellen Nicholl died before 1985 at U.S.A..7
She emigrated before October 1904 from Ireland.
