It is very likely that the Edgeworth residence in Aughna was the one that Francis Geelan originally had.2

     Thomas Diffley was born circa 1829 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. His year of birth is estimated from his stated age of 62 at death in 1891.1,3

Thomas Diffley replaced John Diffley as the Land Holder from 1853 to 1855 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. While we can say that John died in 1854, he remained listed as the holder of his plot in Clooncarreen until 1868, as far as the records of Lord Leitrim were concerned. However the estate records did note that John was deceased by 1854 and that by 1855 he had been replaced as occupier by his son Thomas.4
Thomas Diffley married Mary McGarry on 9 February 1857 at Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. The witnesses were James Diffley and Catherine McGarry.5,6,7
Thomas Diffley replaced John Diffley as the Land Holder in 1860 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. Plots 59 to 61 were redesignated as 14A, 14B and 14C respectively. Note that the change on the Valuation Office records was made later than it was on the estate records.8
Thomas Diffley was listed as a Land Holder in 1878 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. Plot 14C was crossed out and merged with 14B.8 He made a will on 8 May 1890 at Ireland. The witnesses to the Will were John Diffley and Michael McGuinness.
The disposition of the Will was: "I... do will and bequeath to my son Michl. Diffley the farm of land and effects and I bind Michl. Diffley not to marry for eight years without the consent of the executors or if he did I Will the land and effects to my son William Diffley and Michl. Diffley One hundred pounds. I will to my son Thomas Diffley One hundred pounds I will to my daughter Marcella Diffley One hundred pounds I will to my daughter Eliza Diffley One hundred pounds I bind Marcella Diffley and Eliza Diffley not to marry without the consent of the executors or if the (sic) did the (sic) will get none Marcella & Eliza get a support till provided in marriage I will to my son William Diffley one shilling I will to my son John Diffley one shilling I will to my daughter Anne Smyth one shilling All to be paid off the lands of Clooncarn If any of them dies their portion is to be divided equal between the other three..."9
Thomas Diffley died on 13 June 1891 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. The informant was his son Michael Diffley.3
Thomas Diffley was replaced as the Land Holder in 1892 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland, by Michael Diffley.8 His estate was probated on 6 December 1895 at Cavan, Co Cavan, Ireland. His effects were £454.. The executor was Thomas's son-in-law John Smyth.10

     Maria Mahon was born before 8 July 1854 at Rosdoowaun, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland.1
She was baptized on 8 July 1854 at Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. On 8 July 1854 a child named Mary Mahon was baptised in an unknown place . Her father was Patrick. With no other matching entries around the right time, it is assumed to be the correct girl.1 As of 24 January 1878,her married name was Diffley.2
Maria Mahon married John Diffley, son of Peter Diffley and Mary Murray, on 24 January 1878 at Chapel Lane, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. The witnesses were Edward O'Neill (probably of Clooncarn) and Ellen Mahon (probably a sister of the bride.)2 Maria Mahon and John Diffley had 10 children. According to the 1911 Census, all of them were still alive in 1911. Nine of these are known and listed. The other is currently unknown.3

He immigrated circa 1910 to U.S.A.. According to his Immigration papers from 1913 James first visited the U.S. in 1910. Perhaps this was for his sister Mary's wedding?3 At some point between 1910 and 1913 James returned to Ireland.3 He immigrated on 3 November 1913 to Ellis Island, New York, New York, U.S.A.. James stated he was going to visit his sister Mrs Devine in Chicago.3
