It seems likely the latter was a sister of the bride.³ Ancestry shows 3 births of Diffleys, with mother Glynn: John J, Longford, Q4, 1941; Michael P, Mohill, Q2, 1943; and Mell W, Mohill, Q4, 1944.

The witnesses were an unknown person and Mollie Diffley. I suspect an unknown person was John Patrick's brother, while Mollie could have been his sister Mary Anne.^3,4,5

Instead, their household is headed by their eldest son Francis. Also missing from the census were the following of their children: Elizabeth Smyth, Mary Ann Smith, Maria Smyth and Margaret Smyth.⁴

William Diffley died on 11 August 1890 at Clooncarreen, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. A William Diffley was buried in Bornacoola. Unfortunately there appears to be no civil record of the death.
The absence, however, of the right man from the 1901 Census, coupled with a shortage of William Diffleys in general, leads me to believe this must be the death of the man in question.²

The sponsors were John McGarry and Eliza Burbage.^1,2 Elizabeth's birth was registered under the name Sissy and with a stated birth date of 16th February 1871. The birth was registered on 30 March 1871 in the an unknown place Registrar's District in Mohill Superintendent Registrar's District.³

As of 11 November 1897,her married name was Sheridan.²
Marcella Diffley married James Sheridan on 11 November 1897 at Knockadrinan, Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ireland. Marcella's residence is given simply as Bornacoola on the Civil Record while the church record transcription gives Clooncageeher townland. But there is no such place, and it could be that somebody got mixed up between Clooncarne and Cloonageeher. In any event there is no other Marcella Diffley baptism, birth or marriage noted, so on balance I think it likely this is the correct woman.
The witnesses were James Loughan (?) and Ellie McGarry.^2,3
She was listed as wife in the household of James Sheridan in the 1911 census at Corrinagh, Columbkille, Co Longford, Ireland. The Census notes that Marcella had had no children by 1911.⁴
Marcella Diffley died on 5 March 1944 at Corrinagh, Columbkille, Co Longford, Ireland, at age 74. The informant of her death was Michael Sheridan; no relationship is stated but it is possible it was her husband's eldest brother. She was survived by her widower James Sheridan.⁵
